Meet Arijit Khan – Recipient of the Novo Nordisk Foundation RECRUIT Grant and New Associate Professor

Arijit Khan joined the Department of Computer Science as an Associate Professor in May 2022. As a recipient of a DKK 10 million RECRUIT grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the necessary funding for his research within knowledge management is secured for a 5-year project period.

With the Novo Nordisk Foundation RECRUIT grant, Arijit Khan will be able to put together a research team and continue his work within his field of expertise, which is data and knowledge management.

- The grant allows me to put together a strong team and to continue my research within graph data management, mining, graph systems, and machine learning on graphs, he says.

Applications within biology and health care

The purpose of the Novo Nordisk Foundation RECRUIT Grant is to strengthen the position of Danish universities is the international competition to attract talented and leading researchers. The grant has a focus on natural and technical sciences, particularly in fields with potential interdisciplinary application to the life and health sciences and industrial biotechnology.

- My research is about knowledge management and how to get as much relevant and useful information out of the huge amount of data that are available today. It can be applied to a number of different domains like finance, social network data, etc., but in this project, we will be looking at applications within biology and health care. The grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation has allowed me to reach out to potential collaborators within these domains with the aim of getting a broader impact from my research, Arijit Khan explains.

Interdisciplinary and collaborative

Arijit Khan received his PhD degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, and his postdoc from the ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Recently, he has held a position as an Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

He is looking very much forward to continuing his research at the Department of Computer Science, where he will be working out of the Data Engineering, Science and Systems group (DESS):

- The Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University has a very strong position within data management, and I am looking forward to working with good colleagues, both from the DESS group and from the other research groups at the department. My research is very interdisciplinary and collaborative, so that would indeed make sense.
