Ornella Irrera is a second year PhD student at the University of Padova.
RESEARCH AREA AND FOCUS
My research involves scholarly knowledge graphs: structured representations of scholarly knowledge, where nodes are scholarly products, e.g., papers, and edges are directed and labeled with semantics describing the type of relation, e.g., cites.
The main objective of my project is to study new methodologies to find new connections between literature and datasets in scholarly graphs.
In the last year, my research involved also data citation.
An ongoing secondary research activity that I have been involved in since before my PhD is the development of web applications for manual (and non-manual) annotation of documents.
This visit is partially supported by the Danish Data Science Academy (DDSA).
During these six, months I will pursue my PhD project and study new methods to predict links between literature and datasets in large scholarly knowledge graphs.
PROJECTS
I have been working on the ExaMode Project Horizon 2020. This project aims at developing weakly supervised methods for knowledge discovery in medical data. For this project, I was responsible for developing web-based tools for the manual annotation of medical documents.
Currently, I am working for the OpenAIRE project whose aim is to develop tools, infrastructures, and methods to promote open access od research outputs.
FUN AND OTHER FACTS?
I enjoy playing volleyball in my free time, which I have been practicing for a long time. In addition, I love reading.
