Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University welcomes Jilin Hu as a new member of the Database and Web Technologies (DW) group. He joins the group as a Tenure-track Assistant Professor, working in the area of spatio-temporal data management, traffic data analysis, graph neural networks and machine learning.
Jilin Hu has a Master’s degree in Control Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from Aalborg University in 2019. Following this, he worked as a Research Associate at the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence (UAE).
Describe your area and research interests?
We live in a big data era, where we are surrounded by all kinds of spatio-temporal data, e.g., GPS data that records your trajectories. One of my main research interests is to manage and analyze the spatio-temporal data using machine learning. Moreover, I am also interested in the theory and applications with graph-related data, especially in different inter-disciplines, for example, chemistry, bioinformatics, drug discovery, etc.
Which current projects are you going to work on?
I am currently working on the theoretical exploration of graph neural networks, which can be applied to different application domains, e.g., chemistry, bioinformatics. Furthermore, I am also working on self-supervised learning methods that enable the machine to learn without a label. Moreover, I am working on computer vision tasks, for example, object detection and classification with few-shot learning methods.
Why did you choose to continue your career at Aalborg University?
I finished my PhD degree at Aalborg University, and I quite enjoy the working environment here. Moreover, this department is home to several well-recognized researchers in my area, and I very happy to work with them to develop my research experience and skills.
