RESEARCH AREA AND FOCUS
I am doing a Ph.D. at the Trier University and working as researcher and teacher. My research area is in the field of knowledge graph management and quality aware query processing.
The goal of my research is to combine knowledge graphs with Web APIs in order to establish a hybrid federation of different data sources and formats. Furthermore, it should be possible to query all data sources and formats using SPARQL and to output a single joint result table. In contrast to most available query processors, which only focus on query performance, the goal of my research is to develop a query processor that is tunable towards several optimization goals besides performance, e.g. coverage, quality and performance.
PROJECTS
The project I am currently working on (funded by the DAAD) is to create a combination of different datasets and services (e.g. knowledge graphs, Web APIs, etc.) in order to satisfy a broad spectrum of information needs. If users query their (incomplete) dataset, the retrieved answers will also be potentially incomplete. Missing facts can be retrieved on demand by using external sources (e.g. APIs).
When it comes to finding and integrating missing information into query results, there are several solutions available. However, their focus is mostly on the performance (query time) of the system. We argue that a pure focus on performance is not sufficient for many applications, where quality and coverage of results can be equally important. It may at times be sufficient to retrieve a few results of high quality, whereas sometimes it may be important to retrieve all results, even if they include some of low quality. Hence, a query processor should be tunable towards several optimization goals besides performance, e.g. coverage, quality and performance.
PRIVATE/FUN FACTS
In my free time I like to do wildlife photography and be in nature. In addition, I have been passionately practicing martial arts for 10 years.
