CS HOURS

The hours (timer) load for all scientific staff members must be registered, as these are used to calculate the future teaching capacity/strategy at our Faculty as well as our Department. Each semester you receive an email (from hours@cs.aau.dk) when it is time to check your hours load for a specific semester. You are expected to go through the hours and report if there are changes. The hours load include all kinds of tasks: e.g. course, supervision, semester coordination, exam, internal censorship, councils and committee work etc.

FAQ

What is CS Hours?

As of June 2021, we use CS Hours as our load balancing system for managing hours. In CS Hours, all scientific staff can find the number of hours they have delivered in connection with teaching and administrative tasks. You can access your balance status, view your capacity and delivered hours each semester.

How do I get started in the system?

Up until February 2024 you had to "register" the first time you enter the system. This is not necessarily anymore as https://hours.cs.aau.dk now utilizes AAU login for user authentication. Upon logging in, you will be redirected to AAU CAS login. Enter your credentials, and if correct, access will be granted to your Hours dashboard. If automatic redirection doesn't occur, please visit https://hours.cs.aau.dk/dashboard.

This update removes the necessity for the registration of new users—instead, all user registrations are now based on those who have hours registered in the system. A logout immediately followed by a login indicates no hours registered under your email. If you suspect an error, feel free to contact us at hours@cs.aau.dk.

Background

When the system was launched in June 2021, it started with the balance status calculated up to and including Spring 2020 (F20). So if you have delivered hours in the Spring 2020 semester (or earlier), you will be able to find your "start saldo", which is calculated including hours delivered in the Spring 2020 semester.

Besides the balance status, you can find your capacity for and hours delivered in the different semesters (starting with Autumn 2020, E20). If needed it is possible to view the spreadsheets in the archive below to find details regarding capacity and delivered hours in semesters before Autumn 2020.

When hours for a new (specific) semester is ready for you to check in the system, you will receive a message from hours@cs.aau.dk. You will always be notified via email when it is time to check your hours load in the system.

How does the system work?

You log in and go through your different tasks one by one. Make sure to mark the ones you can approve with “a tick”. If you cannot approve a specific task, you can “flag it” and suggest a correction directly in the system, which will be sent to the system administrators. If you have delivered a task that is not listed in the system, you should write an email to hours@cs.aau.dk. There is a direct link in the system where you can do this.

How many hours does a specific task give?

You can find a link to the norms in the box entitled Related Documents to the right on this webpage (“Overview CS norms”).

I see a lot of terms - but what do they mean?

  • Capacity: Each new semester, scientific staff members receive an individual capacity norm, which states the numbers of hours, each employee is expected to deliver in the coming semester. In the CS Hours system the number will be negative (with a minus in front), as it indicates what is expected from the start of the semester.
  • Hours delivered: Indicates the delivered number of hours in the semester.
  • Balance status/Saldo: Total capacity +/- delivered hours. NB: When the system is launched, it will start with the balance status calculated up to and including Spring 2020 (F20). So if you have delivered hours in the Spring 2020 semester (or earlier), you will be able to find your "start saldo", which is calculated including hours delivered in the Spring 2020 semester.
  • F20 (forår 2020): Spring 2020
  • E20 (efterår 2020): Autumn 2020

Questions?
